PSCA World Finals to Decide 2008
Champions
Story by Eric Lenore
In Accufab Performance sponsored Outlaw 10.5, war continues between the
2006 champion Rich Zehring and the 2007 champion Ron Weems. Zehring and
his wicked 870 CID Fulton nitrous combination holds a 30 point lead over
Weems and his new naturally aspirated Sonny Leonard headed Chemi. Weems
recently captured both the ET and MPH records and is looking very strong
going into the finals.
In Mickey Thompson Tires Wild Street, crowd favorite Al Jimenez and his
Procharger assisted big block Camaro holds a 30 point lead over the
nitrous sniffing big block of Orland, California's George Raygoza.
Raygoza has proven to be the most consistent nitrous car in the field
but the odds are not in his favor as the amazing performance of the
Procharger equipped Jimenez entry has been nearly unstoppable. But don't
count out the multi-time champion Raygoza as he has significant big race
experience from which to draw.
K&N Filters Limited Street also has a very tight points chase as Gary
Brandt holds a mere 20 point lead (one round) over Craig Williams.
Ironically both cars were involved in crashes at the last race in Las
Vegas. The accidents forced Brandt to thrash feverishly to repair the
car in time for the World Finals and Williams to essentially dismantle
the car and sell the parts. As it stands now it looks as though Craig is
done for the year, but you never know if he might mysteriously show up
in another ride to contend for the championship. If I had a limited
street car, I would hand Craig the keys and watch him fight for top
honors.
Championships have been essentially decided in Borla Performance Xtreeme
Drag Radial (Roger Holder) and Edelbrock Hot Street (Dan Bott II).
However, we expect many of these class competitors to be testing for the
fourth annual Street Car Super Nationals (SCSN IV) to be held at the
Strip in Las Vegas on November 17-20. For details on these events visit
the PSCA website at www.pscaracing.com and the Street Car Super
Nationals website at
www.streetcarsupernationals.com
In the Bracket and Index classes only Open
Comp and Mean Street (Mike Nordahl) appears to have the Championship
well in hand, however racers in both classes want another crack at
putting the points leader Nordahl on the trailer.. In Super Street,
points leader Doug Crumlich is followed closely by Dick Krieger and
Brian Rogers. Quick Street Michael Hadtrath has a pretty comfortable
lead over 2007 Champ Caleb Hunter, but anything can and usually does
happen.. Mustang Maddness has turned into a 3 horse race with points
leader Dan Marciano being pursued closely by Glen Strelecki & Kirk
Bouchard. Bracket-1 will go right down to the wire with Jerry Hops
holding a slight advantage over Dave Meigide
