Hairston Motorsports and Racing debuted a new Jerry Bickel
Race Cars 2007 GTO at the PSCA "West Coast Shootout" in August
at the California Speedway. Their
first full pass on Sunday morning netted an impressive 6.57 ET @ 218
MPH. Clint Hairston
commented following the run that the "car went straight but drove
through the clutch in 4th and 5th gear.
My shift light never went out after the 4th gear
change! The car feels
rocket ship fast."
The new car sports the familiar Hugger Orange and Pearl White
paint scheme that made their 1972 Pro Street Z28 Camaro so popular with
the fans over the last 3 years. Jim
Hairston, Team Owner, said "we debated the paint job for several
months but all agreed to stay with what our fans seemed to like.
Starside Design did a great job on the graphics."
The Bickel GTO has all the latest technology and is built to Pro
Mod standards including double frame rails, a Mark Williams full floater
rear end and a stretched 110" wheelbase with a composite Five Star
body. Jake Hairston, Team
Crew Chief, commented "Ken Duttweiler and I have a new twin turbo
small block combination de-stroking the engine to 372 cubic inches and
strengthen the rotating assembly and block for more reliability.
We plan on revving the engine higher."
Pertronix Performance Products including their exhaust brands,
Doug's Headers and Patriot Exhaust, returns as the major sponsor on the
new car. Additional Sponsors include Duttweiler Performance, East West
Clutches, Mickey Thompson Tires, Russell, Precision Turbo, Starside
Design, ARP, Comp Cams, SCE, Dart and Specialty Fasteners.
"We plan on racing the car at the remaining PSCA 2007 events
(Labor Day Nationals, Arizona Nationals, Edelbrock World Finals) and the Street Car Super Nationals
III that follows the SEMA Show in Las Vegas," commented Jim
Hairston.
